Scholarship Program

EXCEPTIONAL MUSIC EDUCATION. ACCESSIBLE TO EVERY YOUNG MUSICIAN.

Scholarships & Tuition 

At the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, we believe every young musician deserves the opportunity to experience exceptional music education, inspiring performances, and a welcoming musical community—regardless of financial circumstances.

Because of the generosity of donors, sponsors, grants, and volunteers, family tuition covers only about 30% of the actual costs of providing an NVYS music education and orchestral training. Every student who participates in an NVYS ensemble receives a significant tuition subsidy.

For families with demonstrated financial need, additional need-based partial tuition scholarships are available each season to help ensure that cost is never the reason a qualified musician cannot participate.

Every NVYS Musician Benefits

Your annual tuition helps support:

  • Weekly rehearsals and ensemble instruction

  • Professional conductors and teaching artists

  • Sectional coaching and masterclasses

  • Concert performances and dress rehearsals

  • Music library, music preparation, and licensing

  • Performance venues and rehearsal facilities

  • Administrative support and student services

  • Instrument and equipment maintenance

  • Student leadership and enrichment opportunities

  • Insurance, technology, and operational expenses
     

Even after tuition, approximately 70% of every student’s educational experience is made possible through charitable support.

  • Seasonal Partial Tuition Scholarships 

    NVYS awards a limited number of partial tuition scholarships each season based on demonstrated financial need and available scholarship funding.

    Scholarship assistance is intended to bridge the gap for families experiencing financial hardship while encouraging every family to invest in their student’s musical education to the extent they are able.

    Scholarship awards vary depending upon:

    • Demonstrated financial need

    • Household circumstances

    • Family size

    • Available scholarship funding

    • Number of applicants

    • Scholarship awards are reviewed annually and must be requested each season. Previous scholarship recipients are encouraged to reapply but are not guaranteed future assistance.


    All financial information is handled with the highest level of confidentiality.

  • Application Process

    Families requesting tuition assistance should:

    • Complete their student’s season registration.

    • Submit the Tuition Partial Scholarship Application by the published deadline.

    • Provide any requested financial documentation to verify eligibility.

    • Await notification of scholarship decisions before making final tuition arrangements.

    • Applications received after the deadline will be considered only if scholarship funds remain available.

  • Scholarship Assistance Requirements

    Scholarship assistance is made possible through the generosity of donors who believe every child deserves access to music education. Families receiving scholarship assistance become partners in helping strengthen the NVYS community.

    Scholarship recipients agree to:


    ✔ Complete 25 Volunteer Hours
    Each scholarship family is expected to contribute 25 volunteer hours throughout the season. Volunteer opportunities include concerts, rehearsals, fundraising events, hospitality, outreach, administrative support, library assistance, and other organizational needs.

    ✔ Participate in Annual Fundraising
    Each family is expected to meet the annual fundraising commitment through $200 in raffle ticket sales (or equivalent participation as outlined by NVYS). These efforts directly support student programming and future scholarship opportunities.

    ✔ Support Concert Attendance
    Families are encouraged to attend NVYS concerts throughout the season. Audience support creates an inspiring performance experience for our musicians while strengthening our musical community.

    ✔ Maintain Good Standing
    Scholarship recipients are expected to remain active participants by:

    • Attending rehearsals and performances.

    • Following attendance and participation policies.

    • Preparing music consistently.

    • Demonstrating respectful behavior.

    • Supporting the values and mission of NVYS.

    • Failure to fulfill scholarship commitments may affect eligibility for future scholarship assistance.

  • How You Can Pay

    NVYS offers payment options designed to make tuition manageable for families.

    Available options may include:

    • Full payment

    • Installment payment plans

    • Adjusted payment schedules for approved scholarship recipients

    • Specific payment deadlines are published each season.
