Napa Youth Chamber Ensemble (NYCE)
Napa Youth Chamber Ensemble (NYCE) began in 2008 as a chance for some of NVYS's top players to gain additional leadership and performance experience. The ensemble performs at ten to fifteen events a year, from concerts at the Jarvis Conservatory to fundraisers and outdoor music festivals, such as Festival Napa Valley. Chamber music requires a high musical standard. "Students have to play their parts alone, so every note is the student's responsibility," said professional violinist Yasushi Ogura, NYCE Director since 2012, who makes sure those standards are upheld in weekly rehearsals with the ensemble.
